Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy

Westworld: Season 1

Westworld isn't your typical amusement park. Intended for rich vacationers, the futuristic park allows its visitors to live out their most primal fantasies with the robotic "hosts." However, the robotic hosts have evolved an artificial consciousness that is similar to, yet diverges from, human consciousness. No matter how illicit the fantasy may be, there are no consequences for the park's guests, allowing for any wish to be indulged; but there is a price to be paid.

I have to admit, I have procrastinated a lot on watching "Westworld" as I only just saw it last month, but I am so happy I finally did. It is pretty clear that Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are outright amazing at story writing. The plot is unpredictable, original and has the ability to leave you in awe. Furthermore, the beautiful dance of silence and music during the series makes the plot and the dialogue stand out even more, making every word and every pause jump out. It does not stop here though. All the actors put up one hell of a job throughout the series, really embracing their characters. Personally, I was especially fond of Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris and Evan Rachel Wood. The way they grasped and portrayed their characters was just sublime. In the end, "Westworld" is by far the best TV-series I have seen so far and you should not miss out.

"Westworld" is a show I was very excited about when the first teaser aired and this was for 2 reasons. The first being the showrunner, Jonathan Nolan's - the brother of Christopher Nolan - great track record and the second being the subject matter handled by HBO, the infamous studio behind masterpieces like "Game of Thrones" and "Band of Brothers". Surprisingly so, my expectations weren't just met, they were actually obliterated. This might just be one of the best first seasons of a show that I have ever seen. It had everything you want in a show like this. A great mystery, very smart and consistent story telling and compelling drama throughout. All the actors did an amazing job, especially Anthony Hopkins but that's to be expected from a legend like him. A special mention also goes out to the soundtrack composed by Ramin Djawad also from "Game of Thrones" fame. This time around he made some great original pieces but also turned a few famous songs like "Paint It Black" and "Black Hole Sun" into something special and fresh. All in all, I don't really have anything negative to say about "Westworld" and I would highly recommend it to everybody.

HBO's latest show "Westworld" from creators Jonathan Nolan, yes the brother of Christopher Nolan, and Lisa Joy was set to rival the popularity of "Game of Thrones", a show that is already long in the running and expected to end in a year or 2. It really is that good, something we did not see coming straight away. Not only does it have an amazing cast with heavy weight actors like Anthony Hopkins, it also presents us with an original and unpredictable story which keeps you craving for more. What also stood out to us was the way the music empowered the story to take it to that next level. The combination of new original songs and covers of well known ones kept every scene fresh and memorable, even when the show took a break from all the action and mystery. Not a single scene is without meaning in “Westworld”. What’s more, aside from the, as expected, amazing portrayal by Anthony Hopkins the other cast members put up one hell of a performance as well, with Ed Harris and Evan Rachel being our other favorites. Overall, season 1 is an amazing piece of entertainment and might just be one of the greatest first seasons of a show in recent memory. This should not be missed by anyone and we are already looking forward to the what’s next.
