Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' continues the team's adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's true parentage.
I was all excited and hyped up for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2" as were many Marvel fans. I'll kick this off by saying I liked it but I did not quite love it. To me, the biggest problem was it felt like they forced a lot of jokes to the point where it started to feel like a comedy. I realize the characters are supposed to be funny, but they shouldn't be comical and what's more the humor should not be more important than the story. That does not mean I had a bad time, some of the jokes were fun and the villain was better than in Vol 1. All-in-all if you're a Marvel fan you've probably already watched it, if not you should. For everyone else, watch this one at home with some friends.
Being a big fan of the "Marvel Cinematic Universe" and loving the first "Guardians of the Galaxy", naturally got me very excited for Vol 2. With this in mind, I went into the movie with a lot of hype and high expectations and in the end, my expectations were met but I felt like it could have been even better. I'm going to get the negatives out of the way first. Firstly, the movie suffered a little from forced humor, especially one particular scene which I won't spoil right now. Another negative for me was the motivation of the villain. This wasn't all that clear and well executed. That's not to say the villain was bad, he was in fact one of the best MCU villains to date. While the humor was forced on some occasions, it landed more than it failed and I had a blast watching it. All the actors you know and love return and do a marvelous job as always. Even the new cast members are a hit. One last thing I want to point out is the soundtrack, which is just as good as the first one or maybe even better. Overall, "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2" is a very good movie but I just wish it was a great one.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" rose to the top spot of a lot of people's most anticipated sequels list and that is not without reason as the first one was a fantastic surprise. However, as is the case with the majority of sequels, they just don't reach the same heights as they do the first time around. This does not mean Vol. 2 was bad, far from, but the movie just could not reach the same level as the last one did. Building on what made the first one such a hit, everything needed to be bigger and bolder. From the stakes of the entire universe down to the humor. This is especially noticeable in the latter as they went a bit overboard with it resulting in certain moments feeling very forced. Luckily not all jokes and gags share the same feel and a lot of them do feel genuine. The villain, while better than most other MCU villains sadly still lacked a clear motivation for his evil plans, as do most MCU villains. Just like the first one, the acting and soundtrack were great. All cast members, new and old, did an excellent job and the soundtrack full of 70s and 80s hits are just a blast to listen to. Overall, we would definitely recommend "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" to all the Marvel fans but even non superhero fans should find a lot of enjoyment out of this one.
