Hoping to walk away with a massive cash, a trio of thieves break into the house of a sick man who isn't as helpless as he seems.
I started watching "Don't Breathe" expecting a real horror movie. However I was surprised to find a film which sits somewhere between horror and thriller and in my opinion this is definitely not a bad thing. I found the story to be quite well thought out and it was more than tense enough to get me on the edge of my seat most of the time. The actors did an OK job at portraying their characters as well, with "Stephen Lang" standing out for me. The biggest flaws of the movie can be found in the story as some plot decisions were very predictable and it felt like the story could have ended on at least 3 occasions before the actual end. This aside, I would still recommend "Don't Breathe" to anyone looking for a tense movie on a movie night.
I've got to admit it, I'm not a fan of modern horror films. So when we decided to watch "Don't Breathe", I wasn't really excited and expected some cheap jumpscares or non existent tension. Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed "Don't Breathe" a lot. The story was simple and yet satisfying to watch. This isn't your cliché home invasion movie but instead, everything is turned around and the invaders become the victims. The jump scares are kept at a minimum of 2 or 3, which I appreciate. "Don't Breathe" was also filled with intense scenes that kept you on the edge of your seat the entire way through. All the actors were fine in their roles with Stephen Lang standing out as The Blind Man. My only problem is the ending. They could have ended the movie at a few good points but kept dragging it on to the point where the ending wasn't remotely as good as it would have been otherwise. All in all, this doesnt hurt the overall experience of the movie and I would still recommend "Don't Breath" to every fan of the horror genre.
"Don't Breathe" is the 2nd film from up and coming director Fede Alvarez. We definitely predict a bright future for his career as he made a solid thriller, albeit with some horror elements, yet again. The story had a smart twist on the whole home invasion genre and it was jam packed with tension filled scenes to get you on the edge of your seat. It isn't perfect however as the ending could have been worked out a lot better. The movie ended up dragging on for too long with multiple events feeling like it could have ended then and there. This resulted in the actual ending being quite unsatisfying and bland. On the actor front we can praise Stephen Lang for his performance as he was by far the standout of the movie. The rest of the cast did a fine job as well but just not noticeably exquisite. Overall, we would recommend "Don't Breathe" to everyone as long as you are not too faint hearted.
